We gather our guests from our meeting points to set off for Edirne, a significant cultural heritage of the Ottoman Empire in Thrace. After meeting our guide in Edirne, we begin our tour of Edirne before the Kakava festival. We first reach the Meriç River, where we enjoy a pleasant breakfast by the riverside, then listen to our guide's narrations. After that, we proceed to Lozan Monument, which was erected in memory of the recovery of Karaağaç with the Treaty of Lausanne.
After listening to the guide's explanations and taking our photos, we move on to the Historical Train Station. This is symbolically a center for those coming to Edirne, marked by the black train left on the tracks. After spending some enjoyable time here, we continue to the II. Bayezid Health Museum. This museum is one of the most popular in our country in recent years. With its international awards, it has made its name known both domestically and internationally; it is the only museum that truly brings to life an Ottoman darüşşifa. With our guide's explanations, we proceed to Selimiye Mosque. We start to examine the Selimiye Mosque, renowned for its grandeur and the masterpiece of Mimar Sinan that stands the test of time. After exploring this important work of Ottoman architecture, we take a short break to taste Edirne's exquisite specialty, liver wrapped in grape leaves. After the break, we head to the banks of the Tunca River and the Pazar Kule Border Gate, spending some enjoyable time there. Then we head towards the area where the Kakava Festivals will take place.
AND THE FESTIVAL BEGINS...
Hıdır and İlyas, considered significant figures in Turkish culture, are believed to have met at the foot of a rose tree, and Hıdrellez, reflecting this belief among the Roma culture, is regarded as one of the most important days eagerly awaited and celebrated with great preparations.
In the Kakava festival, which represents the celebration of spring, the increase of abundance, and the sharing of beauty by the Roma, a large fire is lit at the festival site, and people gather around the fire to celebrate the arrival of spring. Hıdırellez symbolizes the meeting of Hıdır and İlyas under a rose tree and is celebrated by the Roma under the name of Kakava festival. In other words, it is the interpretation of Hıdrellez by the Roma.
After immersing ourselves in the entertainment at the festival area and having a great time, we set off to return to Erdek. We part ways hoping to see each other on the next tour.
NOTE: Our arrival time in Erdek may be later than planned due to road congestion, traffic, fog, and weather conditions. A specific return time is not given; it is indicated based on the program flow.
