HEYBELIADA AND BUYUKADA
We depart with our guests from Erdek at the first light of the morning, after picking up guests from Bandırma, we head to Kartal pier. We board the ferry departing from Kartal Pier for our island tour and disembark at Heybeliada. After visiting the historic Naval School (former naval academy) which started education in 1773, we visit the Theological School, an important historical and cultural structure of the island, which served for many years as a center for training Orthodox clergy. After our school visit, we go to visit İsmet İnönü’s house in Heybeliada, the second President of the Republic of Turkey. Today, the house serves as İsmet İnönü Museum, housing many items and documents related to İnönü’s life and political career, making it an important visit point for history enthusiasts. The museum displays items and photographs belonging to İnönü from the period he lived with his family, including gifts he received from Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. After our visit to the İsmet İnönü Museum, we take a pleasant walk through the charming streets of Heybeliada, capturing the surroundings and taking a small break for tea or coffee. We utilize our free time to take photos. At the designated time, we meet at the pier, board the ferry, and head towards Büyükada.
After having lunch in Büyükada, we go to Aya Yorgi Hill to visit the Aya Yorgi Church, a sacred structure that has existed since the Byzantine Empire. Following the unique architecture of the Aya Yorgi Church and the breathtaking view from the hill, we visit the house of Reşat Nuri Güntekin, a significant figure in Turkish literature who spent his last days there, making it an important spot for anyone wanting to trace the author’s footsteps and closely examine his works. After visiting the master’s house, we visit the Aya Nikola Monastery (Hagios Nikolaos), one of the island's important historical structures. We are given free time to photograph the island's mansions, which have hosted many series and films, and immerse ourselves in the charm of Büyükada.
At the designated time, we meet at Büyükada Pier and embark on our return journey. See you on the next Kyzikos Travel tour...
